Example of NME Cover |
The New Musical Express is a well known weekly music magazine in the UK It mostly focuses on rock, indie and alternative bands and this is reflected throughout the magazine by the cover, the bands they interview and the gigs they advertise. It's run by IPC Media and the stats they give are:
- Readers are 70% male and 30% male
- Median ages of readers is 25
- 57% of readers are ABC1
- Circulation: 29,020
Ten years ago the circulation of NME was near 100,00 but with changing technology, people buying the actual magazine has declined. This has lead to NME having to create NME.com, NME TV, NME Radio, and other things such as a music award and tours in an effort to survive. The NME website has 1,996,458 different users according to then which shows that it is still popular but people prefer to catch up with news e.t.c. online.
From looking at the NME profile for potential advertisers on IPC Media, I can tell that it is very male orientated as it advertisers things like Adidas, Fred Perry, Topman, Alcohol (ones that are mostly associated with men e.g. beer), Converse and games consoles e.g. the Xbox.
